  • How to teach yoga classes online

MAIN POINTS OF DIFFERENCE

There are a lot of different Yoga Teacher Training courses out there which can make it difficult to choose the one that’s right for you.

So, if you like…

  • In-person interaction with your course tutors and access to their 30+ years of combined Yoga Teaching experience
  • Hands-on practice of teaching skills so you develop as a teacher rather than having to write essays to prove your worth as a student
  • A chance to try out different styles of hatha yoga to find the one that fits your style of teaching rather than having to teach to a set script
  • A personal development education using proven tools for transformation as well as professional development training
  • A strong business skills element where we work  with you to become a LEADER and not just a teacher
  • A learning experience in which you feel encouraged and accepted no matter how advanced your asana practice
  • Small class size (max. 8 people) so you can learn directly from the tutors rather than being a face in the crowd

Then the Ordinary people Academy Yoga Teacher Training is the one for you!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT WILL WE COVER IN THIS COURSE?

In the OPA Yoga Teacher Training we work on the principles of FOUNDATION, EXPRESSION and VISION. This will incorporate:

Practice & Training (100 hours)

Teaching Methodology (15 hours)

Anatomy & Physiology (30 hours)

Yoga Philosophy & History of Yoga (15 hours)

Teaching Experience (20 hours)

Learner Achievement Portfolio (20 hours)

WHAT STYLE OF YOGA ARE WE LEARNING?

The OPA 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Course focuses on the fundamentals of Hatha Yoga which are key to all styles of yoga. Your principal tutor (Claire) has trained in Hatha, Yin, Vinyasa Flow, Pre-Natal, Children’s and Restorative Yoga amongst others  while so all these different influences will be brought together into your training.

The certificate you receive will allow you to teach Hatha yoga which is a very broad designation and will allow you to find your distinct and personal teaching style. Victoria is intentionally seeking students for this programme who want to find their own voice as a yoga teacher. While she will certainly provide you with a multitude of strong tools and templates to build with, this is your time to learn and share what yoga means to you.

WHAT DO YOU EXPECT OF ME?

We ask that you ensure at least an 80% attendance and completion of course and practical homework.

You will also be assessed according to the Yoga Alliance guidelines.

Assessment:
1. Students will complete a Learner Achievement Portfolio showcasing their knowledge in the main elements of the course
2. Students will be required to create a 6-week class outline to ensure their knowledge is deeper than teaching one class
3. Students will complete a practical assessment of their teaching skills

All successful graduates will receive a certificate of completion from StretchBodyMind and RYT 200 (Registered Yoga Teacher) status from IPHM.

WHAT IF I CAN'T DO A CERTAIN POSE?

You are definitely not alone! But no one needs to be able to put their leg behind their head (or even close) to participate. This course helps you build your skills and confidence to then create the same safe, supportive environment for your future students and does not teach you to become a human pretzel (unless, of course, you were previously!) although your flexibility and confidence in the yoga asanas will improve through the regular practice.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE'RE DONE?

Once you have received your certificate of completion from the Ordinary People Academy you can register with Yoga Alliance Professionals at the 200-hour level which will allow you to use the letters RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) after your name, join the Yoga Alliance Professionals register as a Yoga Teacher and apply for work in many studios, gyms and health clubs.

It is recommended that you begin teaching as soon as you complete the course to small groups of friends and neighbours so that you are developing what you have learned during your training.

The benefits of completing an intensive yoga study are not limited to teaching, however. Many students who take teacher training programmes never intend to teach. Participants find that the in-depth nature of this programme helps them to deepen their personal yoga practice. Since each training session is on a 1:1 basis and bespoke to you, the potential for growth is orders of magnitude larger than the growth that can be attained in a normal group class setting.

CAN I CREATE A BUSINESS FROM THIS COURSE?

When you become a yoga teacher, you are essentially starting a small business. Not enough people talk about this, but it’s true. Even if you’re only teaching one class a week at your local community centre, you still need to know how to write a catchy yet clear class description, get the word out about your classes and connect with all those students you really want to teach. So this course gives you access to my online business course Stretch Your Biz and I will walk you through the ins and outs of how to start your teaching with a clear plan in place so that you can get (and keep!) the students and classes you want.

You will leave this training with a 6-week series in hand, ready to teach the moment you get your graduation certificate. This includes a theme for the series, the sequences, and the marketing materials – all of which you’ll create along the way with the support of our training community. No teacher training programme would be complete without a closer look at the ethical guidelines and responsibilities of the yoga teacher. Therefore the course will also cover some key aspects of the business aspect of teaching yoga such as liability and insurance. There will also be a lecture on teaching online.

TESTIMONIALS

I would recommend StretchBodyMind to anyone looking to expand their yoga practice beyond the mat. This is more than teacher training, it’s a fully immersive experience into the history and practice of yoga. I have grown as a person and feel that I have benefitted, not just from a set curriculum of teachings, but from the wealth of knowledge and experience that the trainer possessed.
Angela, Scotland 2020 Graduate

I am completely satisfied with everything about my Yoga Teacher Training, also the amazing accomplishment of being able to complete our course during Covid-19 with still a high standard around-the-clock support, gaining skills and knowledge of teaching online is a bonus, with a professional and caring approach.
Leila, Ireland 2020 Graduate

Since I started the course I have found a deeper love of yoga and the course has honestly changed me as a person. I feel much more confident in my chosen path, more grounded and present, and I’ve loved learning so much in all the different areas covered in each class! I feel I’ve achieved much more happiness since starting on the course.  I could not recommend this course enough, it’s a lifetime investment!!!!!
Beverley, Ireland 2020 Graduate

Before I signed up I thought “What sort of teacher would be taking the course – strict, scary, demanding….??? What if the course wasn’t for me after spending a lot of money and not enjoying it….” However, I have enjoyed every moment of this course, and would recommend to anyone who has the slightest thought or strongest desire to train as a yoga teacher. The online yoga course covers so much, but with Victoria’s help, guidance, knowledge and patience you feel at ease throughout. Meeting the fantastic small group of yoga students I was honoured to be part of – we encouraged and helped each other throughout our course – and I feel I have known them forever!
Jill, England 2021 Graduate

This is hands down the best course I have ever done! And the opportunity to do it in collaboration with Claire’s Yoga Studio made it so much easier than having to go further afield.
Nigel, Ireland 2023 Graduate

As well as being inspired to think about ways to start teaching and more training and development opportunities I am feeling more optimism about the future and much more confidence about myself and my ability as a Yoga Teacher.
Rosetta, Ireland 2023 Graduate
